Veterans Day 2023
As Veterans Day 2023 approaches, we honor and pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We are forever grateful for their selfless service and sacrifice that has helped protect our nation’s freedom and democracy.
As we remember the sacrifices of our veterans, let us also take a moment to reflect on the challenges they face upon returning home. Many veterans struggle with physical and mental health issues, homelessness, and unemployment. It is our duty as a society to support and care for our veterans, just as they have supported and cared for us.
Let us also remember the families of our veterans, who have made their own sacrifices in support of their loved ones. They have endured long separations, frequent moves, and the anxiety of knowing their loved ones are in harm’s way. We owe them our gratitude and support as well.
On this Veterans Day, let us renew our commitment to supporting our veterans and their families. Let us honor their service by working to ensure that they receive the care, benefits, and opportunities they deserve. And let us never forget the sacrifices they have made on our behalf.

We should never forget our Veterans, and the sacrifices they made for us. We should also remember their families who sacrificed as well, rearing them to become our true protectors. It’s our turn now to protect them as we build our future together with them.

We must never become complacent in remember what these men and women have sacrificed, so that we as Americans can enjoy the freedoms that were given to us by our founding fathers. So made the ultimate sacrifice immediately. Some made the sacrifice daily for the rest of their lives.

Comment on the 2 videos Veterans Day and Gratitude. They both are excellent and a reminder of how young these people who enlist really are and the fact that they are currently responsible for keeping us safe. They are doing a difficult job with excellence. We are still free.

It’s amazing to think that there are a quality of people that run towards danger when the rest are running away. These are our Heroes. 2K Heroes are those that get some great benefits from a company that wants to help.
We Thank You Heroes! Thank you for your service, your dedication and your bravery.

Serving, whether in the military (like I did), or as a first responder, or in any other capacity where you put the needs and welfare of others before your own is an honor, but by definition it is also a voluntary sacrifice. Sacrifice is never easy; it is where you exercise faith to surrender something important to you for something that you deem to be even more important; often without any guarantees of success or even acknowledgement. May we, on this Veteran’s Day, remember and acknowledge those efforts made by others in our behalf. Thank you for your service.

May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please but as the opportunity to do what is right.

I am grateful that we have veterans, they have led the way in our nations battles. I am very proud that I too served in the military from 2000 to 2006, I’ve been blessed with becoming a friend, a brother or a son to everyone that has ever served in the military. We serve to the best of our ability, not every comes home , those of us who do come home often have been affected by what we’ve been through. I am thankful for all the families of those veterans, and those currently serving, they give up so much when they have a member of their family serving in the military.

When I think of Veterans it always reminds me of my father and when he was asked to serve in the Army. I was four years old and I remember him going away on the train. How we all missed him. When ever we would hear the train whistle blow we would crowed around the window and start saying, “Bring our Daddy back.”
One day my brother, who was six, thought of a good idea. He suggested my sister and I should go with him to the train and we would get into one of the coal cars and ride it to there they had taken our Daddy.
We made it down to the train tracks and we were lucky there was a train stopped with lots of coal cars. We climbed through the fence and my brother went right up the ladder and slid into the car. I remember I got half way up the ladder and couldn’t reach the next rung. My little sister was too small so she stood on the track next to the wheel.
We heard the whistle blow meaning the train would be leaving soon. My brother was leaning over the edge trying to help pull me up. Just at that moment I saw our mother climbing through the fence so fast that the barbwire ripping her only dress. She ordered us to get down and she grabbed my sister from under the wheel. We sadly got down and moved away from the train as it started out. Our rescue mission to bring our Daddy back had failed!
It wasn’t until Mom explained that was the wrong train and we could have all been lost forever. She told us that when she heard the train whistle blow she was prompted to run as fast as she could to the train tracks. I will always be grateful for Mom’s who stayed home when the men went to serve. She is also my Hero.

I’d like to share a story about a very special veteran – my father. The day before he passed away, my father said to me, “I am lucky, I get to say goodbye”. I didn’t understand what he meant until many years later. I was extremely proud of his military service to our country. I knew he served over five years in World War II, of which 40 months were in the European Theatre. I knew he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and he commanded the 46th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, 3rd Army from the Battle of the Bulge until separation in 1946. I knew after the war, in 1947, he accepted a Regular Army Commission, graduating from The Command & General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas 1949. Many years later I learned that when we lived in Louisville, Kentucky he spent a year working with a chaplain contacting families, making burial arrangements and attending funerals. His assignment was to bring the dead back for the state of Kentucky. Then I understood.

I believe that my Dad serving in the Air Force during the Korean War had a huge effect on my brothers serving in the military as well.
It’s comforting to go to bed at night knowing that people are willing to give their lives for our protection and freedoms.

I would do it all again. With the passing of time has come the realization that I made a truly great decision in joining the US Navy, back when. I grew up! I made life- long friends and gained life-long disciplines that have been anchors in my life. I was a part of a small Cadre of young men and women to commit to serving our country. I saw war and death. I value our earned freedom and realize it truly is free. It comes at the cost of young lives and much heartache. I’d do it all again.
